RURAL BAKINGS. 71 Pigs In Five Litters. What was claimed to be a probable record for a Berkshire sow was made recently by the superintendent of tho Riverina Welfare Farm, New South Wales, whore a stud sow farrowed 60 pigs in five litters, and reared 55. An even better record lias como to light at Stroud Road, cn the North Coast, where a Berkshire owned by Mr T. Wenham farrowed 71 pigs in five litters and reared 66 of them, an a\erago of over 13 a litter as against the Welfare Farm’s 11. Butter Boxes From Tawa. A plan for the. manufacture of- butter boxes oir a large scalo from tawa, or from riniu sap, was outlined by the secretary of the Auckland Timber Workers’ Union in commenting on a Hamilton report that Waikato dairy factory companies are experiencing difficulty owing to the*shortage of dry timber for butter boxes. “Uneconomic Farm.” “I can’t do it, Mr Chairman, because I am busy with uneconomic farms. I have to farm one and I have to investigate others,” was Air B. J. Moyle's reason for declining nomination as junior vice-predi-dent of the Waimate branch of the Farmers’ Union. Air Moyle, who raised a laugh with his reason for declining, is a member of tho Canterbury Land Board.
