TAIHAPE CATTLE FAIR.

Dalgcty and Co., Ltd., report on tho Taihapc autumn cattle fair held on Wednesday, when a capacity yarding of some 2000 cal tie was submitted to a large and representative gathering of buyers from the Waikato, Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu, Pahiatua and surrounding districts. In the main the quality was well up to the standard of recent yearn, with the exception of the weaner cattle, which were not as well grown as usual. Tho yarding comprised approximately 600 2g and steers, with an odd pen of two races of weaner steers and heifers, and a large offering of female cattle. The sale opened quietly on tho older steers, with prices on a - par with recent sales. However, after several pens had been sold Ihore was a noticeable improvement in the market, buyers operating freely on ail the well-bred lines, more especially on the steers, realisations for this class showing a definite improvement on late sales. The best lino of 3i-year-old steers sold from £7 to £7 16s and 22-year-olds from £6 to £7. There was a good inquiry for tho top lines of weaner steers, heifers, on the other hand, were more or less neglected 'and realisations were rather disappointing. A good deal of interest was, taken in the female section, and wo report a meet satisfactory sale in this department for all quality cattle at values fully firm on late sales, with the exception of in-calf cows and heifers, which were rather neglected and values were definitely in buyers' favour.
