FARMERS’ UNION. Mr T. L. Anderson was in the clmir at tlte annual mooting of the Pahiatua hraneli of tlio Farmers’ Union. The election of officers resulted :—President, Mr Anderson ; vicc-mesidcnts, Messrs E. R. Winkler, J. H. Bremner and 'l'. J. Cotter; executive, Messrs \Y. Angove. G. H. Brown. J. Camphell, P. Davies, T. Daysh, C. J. Rising. \V. Fulton, J. R. Gardiner, J. A. Gibson, 0. Jennings, P. W. Matthews, A. T. Sinclair, F. K. Ward, C. B. T.vleo, A. 11. Eglinton, ,J. J. Sutherland. R. C. Yates, C. H. Wilton, W. P. Nelson, W. W. Day and Whitconibo Bros. After a-discussion on the advisability of including the Young Farmers’ Clubs’" representatives on the executive, without voting power, Mr K. Pry do was elected an executive member, and Messrs G. Cotter and 11. Bairstow (Mangatainoka) and G. Day and 11. Wilton (Ballanee) as t.ho Young Farmers' Clubs’ representatives. The following wore elected an emergency committee: The president and Messrs Winkler, Bremnev. T. Cotter and G. IT. Brown. Mr J. D. C. Crewe . was reappointed lion, auditor. A vote of thanks to Mr Crowe was carried. Messrs T. F. Anderson, J. FI. Bremner, 11. Cotter and E. H. Winkler were elected the delegates to attend the mooting of the Wairarapa provincial executive. . The delegates appointed to the intor-nrovincial conference are Messrs Anderson, Bremner and Winkler. “I have boon told definitely that there is a 100 per cent, restriction on all shearing machinery,” said Mr. 11. Cotter, who moved the following remit to the provincial executive which was carried: “That the Government be asked to ensure that ample supplies of shearing requisites, including woolpacks, be available for the coming season.” Mr Cotter said that the matter might be disastrous to the farmer, who might suffer also through a shortage of shearers. Mr G. 11. Brown said that farmers near him had their wives and children working in the cowshed and the Government was calling out for more production. lie contended the farmer was not getting a fair deal Mr C. IT. Wilton moved the following remit, which was carried:—“That in view' of the urgent, need of quick despatch of produce to Great. Britain for the prosecution of the war, the Government bo urged to impress on the waterside workers the necessity of speeding up the discharge and leading of overseas vessels, also fuller co-operation with and a better understanding of the farmers’ difficulties.” MAGISTRATE’S COURT. Before Mr FI. P. Lawry, S.M., in the Pahiatua Magistrate’s Court., a man whose name was ordered to be suppressed, was charged with the theft of £3 2s 3d from the till of Beale’s fish shop -at Pahiatua. A fine of £5 was imposed, time being allowed in which to pay. John do P. Manson (Mr Rawsou), hotel, licensee, was charged with selling liquor after hours. and selling to a prohibited person. lie was fined £5 with 10s costs on each charge. James William Johnston, being a prohibited person, was fined £2 and 10s costs for procuring liquor. Ivori A. Irvine (Mr Stddells). hotel licensee, nleadod guilty to selling liquor after hours and w’as fined £5 and 10s costs, Eric C. Moxtcd on a charge of aiding and abetting a licensee was fined £1 and 10s costs. RUGBY FOOTBALL. The following is the draw for Saturday’s matches in the Bush Rugby competition : Senior: Konini v. Ilanuia, at Pahiatua (referee, Mr 13. Harvey) ; Nircaha v. Hukanui, at llnkanui (Mr E. Matson); Pahiatua v. Mangatainoka, at Mangatainoka (Mr E. Fisher). Third grade: Ekctahiina v. l’ahiatua, at EketaJntna (Mr W. Rvan) ; Nirealia v. Woodvillc, at Woodvi’le (Mr C. Skilton): Aihlet’c v. Mangatainoka, at Pahiatua (Mr D. Foster). RED CROSS. The Pahiatua branch cf the Rod Cross Association has received the following donations: Ballanee Young Fanners’ Club. £5 6s 10c 1 -: Pahiatua Centennial Celebrations Committee, £l3 12s. FAREWELL PARTY. Mr and Mrs E. E. Goss, senr., of Nirealia wero the guests of honour at a surprise party given them by members of their ! family, grandchildren and friends, recently |Mr and Mrs Goss are leaving Nirealia ito reside in Levin. The presentation of a satin eiderdown quilt w>as made by members of tho family, and presented ’by Mr W. I-I. Lawry.,: who wished them both the best of health‘and geed luck in their new home. Mr-E. E. Goss replied.
