RED CROSS SOCIETY
MEETING OF SUB-BRANCH. FORTHCOMING APPEAL. A meeting of the Feilding subbranch of the Manawatu Red Cross Centre was held on Tuesday, the Mayor presiding. Mr Seddon said that probably the fact that there were other functions was responsible for a small attendance. He outlined the purpose of the meeting—to organise the Red Cross Society’s £250,000 appeal for the sick and wounded soldiers. It will he recalled that the Provincial Patriotic Council has delegated to the order of St. John and the Red Cross Society this appeal. Mr K. Ross, addressing the meeting, recalled his experiences in the last war, illustrating vividly the wonderful part played by the lied Cross Society in ministering to the sick and wounded and those in distress. The Red Cross Society had provided transport, food, and supplies on a huge seal© and had supplemented the assistance rendered by the Government. Owing to the small attendance it was resolved that the meeting adjourn and if possible meet the Zone E Patriotic Committee and other organisations in the district with a view to. co-opting their services in the launching of the appeal. It is expected that the joint meeting will be held next week.
