SENTENCES IMPOSED.
SUPREME COURT CASES. “You two have acted very stupidly and very wrongly, but the probation officer recommends you to probation and 1 agree with him,” said the Chief Justice, lit. Hon. Sir Michael Myers, in the Supreme Court, yesterday, when imposing sentence on Albert Lawrence Coley, aged 25, of Shannon, who had pleaded guilty to making a false declaration under the Marriage Act, and on Mrs Eileen Joyce Coley, aged 19, of Shannon, who had also pleaded guilty to making a false statement under the Marriage Act. Frederick Nicholas Dailey, motor bus driver, aged 31, of Pahiat.ua, appeared for sentence on two serious charges. For tlie prisoner, Mr A. M. Ongley said he was married, with two children. He had been brought up by his grandparents. He was now employed, had work to return to and, except for this unfortunate lapse, had been a respected citizen. His Honour said this was not the case of a young man’s unfortunate lapse with a precocious girl. There were two charges, but the evidence showed a worse state than that. If this man were not to he punished the law in regard to this offence might be regarded as a “dead letter.” Mr Ongley said the Probation Officer recommended probation, and he asked that the granting of probation be considered. His Honour said the Court had_ to think of tlie interests of the public. _ For the Crown, Mr M. H. Oram said the complainant concerned bore an excellent character. “X do not wish to make your position any harder by the use of any harsh expressions, which are really not necessary,” said His Honour.
