FLOODS IN OTAGO.
BLOCKAGE OF ROADS. RAILWAYS AFFECTED. Per Press Association. DUNEDIN, May 5. Four days’ continuous rain plus melting enow in the ranges caused, last evening, the beginnings of what may be extensive flooding on the Taieri’Plain. This morning the main railway line between Otokia. and Henley was under 4 feet of water. The express from Invercargill stopped at Milton. It was not possible to despatch passengers by roads, which were also impassable. At Riverside a big area of plains is flooded. It is known that one farmer lost 45 sheep and much heavier losses arc feared.r At Outram the river is within sft of inundating the township. No trains or oars can get through Otago Central. A train is held at Ranfurly owing to the foundations to the approach of Otureliua bridge being scoured out. The north roads are as yet clear but a block near Palmerston is reported to be imminent.
