CRIPPLED CHILDREN.

WELFARE IN MANAWATU. The executive committee of the Manawatu branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children Society met on Monday, Mr W. G. Black presiding. Miss E. Aitken, welfare officer, reported that 10 days were spent in the Manawatu district and 10 days in the Wanganui district, visits being paid and cases received, Two new cases were reported, and, 810 miles were travelled. Cases dealt with at the clinic that day were the subject of a supplementary report. Both reports were adopted, and it was agreed that the recommendations made be given effect to. A report of an interview with the president of the Massey College Students’ Association about the capping day collection was given by Mr A. Grigor. He said that he had been informed that the students had unanimously agreed that the collection this year should Ikj given towards comforts for the Maori Battalion. The appointment of Mr A. McLeod as official-'canvasser was reported by the -sub-committee set up to investigate this matter. It was said that he would start duties immediately, and the action of the sub-commit-tee was endorsed.

Successful concerts held by subbranches iu Levin and Woodville to aid the funds were reported upon; and it was said that it was hoped that the Palmerston North concert would take place early in June. The progress of the arrangements for a concert at Foxton was also dealt with.

Advice was received that a meeting would be held in Wellington in the near future to make recommendations on altering the rules of the New Zealand Society. The chairman was appointed to represent the Manawatu branch.

It was decided to express the thanks of the committee to Mr and Mrs F. Gowing for the party they arranged on Saturday last for some of the children under the care of the branch.
