RANGITIKEI.

MARTON, May 6. In a third grade match played as a curtain-raiser, at Marton on Saturday, Marton School beat Old Boys by 6 points to nil. J. Kwong scored a try in the first half and V. Stantiall kicked a penalty goal in the. 6econd half for the school. The funeral of Mr P. 11. Wood, on Monday, was attended by a large and representative gathering of the business and farming community of Rangitikei. A short service was held at the residence and afterwards at St. Stephen’s Church, Rev. W. Raine impressively referring to the services rendered by tho_ late Mr Wood to the church during his association as a churchwarden, a member of the choir and vestry and also as secretary to St. Stephen’s Day School. The choir assisted at the service. At the graveside at Mt. View Cemetery Mr Raine also conducted the burial service. The pallbearers were Messrs A. V. Theod, W. F. Stevens, K. W. Deighton. R. L. LcgerIlolmcs, 11. C. N*. Ladley and F. J Christensen. Among a representative gathering of citizens was Mr H. J. Dttigan, of Wanganui, who represented the Real Estate Institute of New Zealand, the North Island Land Valuers’ Association and the New Zealand Institute of Valuers, all of which .Mr Wood was a valued member. Other members of these institutions present weft Messrs V. Monrad, P. S. Larcombc, G. Wilson (Palmerston North), Nr Gifford (Feilding), and R. L. Gibson (Marton). The casket was adorned with a number of beautiful floral tributes, which testified to the high esteem in which Mr"-Wood was held ir, the district, and included wreaths from the Marton Jockey Club, Marton A. and P. Association, Marton Club, Dental Ciinic, chairman, members, and staff of the Rangitikei County Council, North Island Land Valuers’ Association, tha Parents’ - Association of St. Stephen’s School, members and vestry of St. Stephen’s Church, Marton branch, Women’s Division of Farmers’ Union, and Real Estate Institute.
