MISSION CAMPAIGN.

CHURCHES UNITE. Per Press Association. GREYMOUTH, May 7. Organised by the Anglican, Presbyterian, Methodist, and Baptist Churches, the Church of Christ and the Salvation Army, a simultaneous mission commenced in all parts of the West Coast this week. The missioners are drawn from other parts _of the South Island and Wellington. About 900 people attended a civic reception this evening, when the Mayors of Greymouth (Mr U. A. Kitchingham), Westport (Mr J. M. Robertson) and Runanga (Mr R. McTaggart) united in welcoming the missioners. The president ' of the Greymouth Ministers’ Association (Archdeacon J. A. Jermyn) described the mission as owing to the charge made by Bishop Hilliard at the Nelson Diocesan Synod last year, when Dr. Hilliard asked the clergy and laity to go forward in a campaign urging the people to return to practice their'religious duties. Since June last regular meetings had been held in preparation, the reformed churches being united in their desire to extend the influence of the churches on the West Coast. Replies to the welcome were made by Canon Donald Haultain (Blenheim) and Rev. J. A. Thomson (Invercargill). More than 20 members of the clergy are taking part in the mission, which.is styled: “The Coast for Christ Campaign.” It continues throughout the next fortnight. j
