SPORTSMAN DROWNED.
TRAGEDY IN WAIRARAPA. Per Pi-ess Association. CARTERTON, May 7. The opening of the shooting season in the Wairarapa was marred by- a tragedy when Mr Arthur Warren, a well-known farmer of llawahi. Pirinoa, was drowned. He was aged 38, a married man with one child, and was one of a party of four. Mr Warren was driving a motorboat with one passenger, Mr Hugh Swainson, of Lake Ferry. He landed Mr Swainson and then stated he was going to pick up a swan floating on the water. It is. surmised that as he reached for the swan he overbalanced and fell into the water and that the boat went on.
Mr Warren wore waders and gumhoots, which dragged him down. Fir* minutes later the boat was seen pursuing an erratic course without an occupant.
The body lias not-yet .been recovered.
