DISMISSAL OF MEN.
I (To the Editor.) Sir, —I read the report of a meeting of the Palmerston North branch of the Labourers’ Union on May 4, at which an ‘emphatic protest” was made against the action of the Minister of Public Works in the dismissal of men employed at Bunvood and at Haast Pass (which they termed ‘‘exceeding his authority, and discrediting the whole Labour movement”), and a full enquiry was demanded. This deplorable 'lack of commonscnse has heated me up to melting point. What further inquiry was needed when all possible evidence was found on the snot? The Minister made the facts perfectly clear in his statements. Do we need. any further evidence? This is not an isolated case: I am certain Mr Semple has not felt very happy in delaying action so long when we realise he is a steward of the public purse. The question 1 wish to ask is, will the honest workers still continue to “carry” the men Mr Semple referred to ?—I ami €tC '’ THOS. YOUNG. Fitzherbert West, 5-5-40.
