MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
TRAFFIC CASES. A sitting of the Magistrate's Court was held yesterday before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M. . Alfred Arthur Ganderton, slaughterman, aged. 26, was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a motorcar on Friday night, and with not having a driver’s license. Stephen Gough, a freezing worker, aged 44, was similarly charged. A remand was granted for a week, bail being renewed on the previous terms of £25 (self) and a surety of £25 each. G. C. Cowan was charged with driving a car over a railway crossing in front of a train approaching: within a distance of half a mile. It was saidby the police that defendant crossed the line in the Square, when the warning bells were ringing. Defendant pleaded not guilty and said he was just over the line when, the bells started to ring. He was fined £5 and ordered to pay 11s costs. On a similar charge W, G. Gaskin was fined £7 and ordered to pay 10s costs. On a ,charge of. riding a bicycle over a crossing when a train was approaching, P. E. B. - Richards was fined £1 and ordered to pav 10s costs. For not carrying a warrant, of fitness in his car, H. L. Carlyle was ordered to. pay costs.
