RANGITIKEI.
MARTON; May 6. After hearing a .report from Crs. Hammond and Marr, who had interviewed tlie Minister of Lands about tho county valuations, the Rangitikei County Council reaffirmed its resolution, carried at a previous meeting, to apply for a revised valuation of the whole county area.. It was also decided 16 call meetings of ratepayers in Tailiapo, Marton, and Hunterville, at which councillors, would explain the position. Cr Mail- said the Rangitikei county capital value was roughly £9,000,C00, and tho unimproved value £5,000.000, tho unimproved value showing 11 per cent’more, than for the improvement over the whole county. That proportion of unimproved value to the capital value might be right, in good country valued at from £35 to £45 an acie, and held in fairly large blocks,’ blit seemed hardly correct when applied to land at from £lO to £l2 an acre, which was hilly and had all been heavy hush' country. He considered that a case had been established and that the Rangitikei - county was suffering an injustice in consequence of the inequitable basis on which the unimproved value and the value allowed - for improvements had been determined. Cr Hammond said the difference between the •alues in Rangitikei and Wanganui counties liad been brought about chiefly by the recent reductions made by the Court in tlie Wanganui county. At the Marton Club’s links on Saturday a stroke competition was played, S. M. Morrison returning the host card, of 84 20 —64. M. C. Fenwicke was next with 777 — 70.
