THE COMPETITIONS
17TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL.EARLY PERFORMERS The Manawatu Competitions Society’s seventeenth annual festival opened yesterday. In spite of the difficult conditions prevailing, the entries are well up to the best standard, numbering about 1500. There are 400 competitors, about half of- wliom are visitors. The dancing classes, as usual, are very, popular. These arc being h«d in. the Opera House, Miss Jeane Horne, of Wellington, being the judge, while Mrs M. C. Hannan, of Taranaki, is the judge of the national dancing, in the Empire Hall. Vocal and instrumental classes, judged by Mr Claude H. Davies, of Christchurch, and elocution, judged by Mrs Isabel Halligan, of Wellington, are being held in the Little Theatre. .The secretarial duties are again in the capable hands of Mr Iv. G. Chamberlain. The competitions will continue throughout the week. The early classes yesterday resulted NATIONAL DANCING.
