MR SEMPLE’S ACTION.
(To tlie Editor.) Sir, —Tn the “Manawatu Standard” dated May 2 I noticed the Palmerston North General Labourers’ Union passed a vote of protest against the action of Hon. R. Semple (Minister of Transport, etc.), for dismissing a man (or men) from public, works. I maintain lie was fully justified l in doing so. No man in this country knows his job better than jVfv Semple does. Were he in any other country he would be getting double the pay'lie gets here for his valuable services. He knows what a man can do and pays a good price for willing labour—and will have no “go slow” policy or communistic palaver and waste of time. I venture to say that had the voting been by secret ballot instead of a show of hands, his action would have been approved of by the great majority of the men. It would be a good thing if every other member of the Government knew the ,job and acted on the same lines. —I am, etc ■X, GRANDPA; Palmerston North, 4-4-40. ,
