N.S.W. AMATEUR TITLE.
MANAWATU CLUB. FIRST QUALIFYING ROUND. The first qualifying round of the club championship, with the May. stroke handicap, was played by members of the Manawatu Golf Club on the Hokowhitu course oil Saturday. Considering, the heavy, rain which bad fallen before play started, some gooct scores were handed in. Hie best cards were:— „„ ' A grade.—G. A. Robertson, 82—12 70: A. Johns, 75—5—70; J. M. Taylor, 83— 10—73: J. Denby, 84—10 —'4; J. H. Munro. 86—12—74; K. Glendmning, 751 —74. . B ‘n-ade.—H. E. Billens, 92—24-—68; G. Stubbs, 88—18—70: J. H. Nash, 90—18—72; A. E. Carrington, 93—20 73. PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. QUALIFYING ROUND. The first qualifying' round of the club championship was played by members of the Palmerston North Golf Club on the Awatapu course yesterday. Some good golf was played on a heavy course, C. R. "Ward returning the best gross score of 78. J. M.. Ramsay scored a gross 80 and was the next best. Results were:— A grade.—C. R. Ward, 78—7—71; E. A,stin 84—12—72; R. Mace, 85 — 13—72 ; A! B. Ward, 85—12—73; J. At. Ramsay, 80—6—74; L. De Cleene, 84— B grade.—B. Wilson, 93—22—71; L. Sevmour, 88—16—72: G. Rankin, 89 —17—72; G. Tremaine, 89-—15—74; •J. Anderson, 97-—23—74; J. Kearns, 99—24—75; J. Child, 100—24—76 ; H. M. Essex, 94—18—76; N. Hume, 91— 15—76. BUCKLEY CLUB. Conditions were ideal for golf at the Buckley Golf Club, Shannon, at the week-end. The May medal was won by D. Long-Ward with a score of 65 net. A fourball bestball Stn-bleford competition was won by D. Leng-Ward and R. Graham on the count back from H. Pope and A. McSweeney, with .. 40 points. The results of games played in the second round of the Goldfinch and Cousins Cup, are; S. L. Graham beat N. Rotter, D. Leng-Ward beat H. Mabey, A. McSweeney teat R. Harding, E. Easton beat H. Moore, D. Hill beat N. Birch, T. King beat V. Guerin, FI. Pope beat C. Goodwin. Next week-e.nd a team will play the Palmerston North Club on the Awatapu links.
‘ SYDNEY, May 5. The New South Wales amateur golf championship was won by Waterson, who defeated Davies, 3 and 2, in the final.
