OLD BOYS SUFFER DEFEAT. The Feilding senior fifteen emerged victorious after a battle with Old Roys at Johnston Park. Attacking immediately the ball was sot in motion, Feilding, with the advantage of the down grade and the sun at their backs, pushed back Old Boys and maintained their ground until Wilson made an opening and swung the hall out to the side where Dormer rushed up to collect but slipped. Golfc, however, came up fast and grabbing the ball went on to touch down wide out. Pollard’s kick failed. Old Boys were subjected to pressure again, and after smart handling by Thompson and Rush the leather was transferred to Lewis on the wing, this player making a snappy run to cross in the corner. Pollard’s shot again missed. Old Boys set out to improve their .position and some good efforts came from Barraud, Davidson and Cutlei. the first-mentioned making a splendid run to draw the play well inside Feilding’s inner territory, u here Lewis interrupted a dual passing movement and Wilson came on id the scene to further frustrate what appeared to be a certain try for Old Boys. A scrum took place close in and arising from it Lange dropkicked a good goal. The spell ended a moment later. Feilding again took the initiative w the second half, but after a momentary advantage Old Boys rallied and O’Dea got away to finish a brilliant run with a touch down in the corner. Buick’s attempt to convert failed. Garlick soon afterwards found a weak spot in the defence and cut through to add another three points for Feilding, Thompson contributing the other two. About half-way through the second spell the visitors made a determined atterjpt to repulse the attackers and displayed some good movements, but the defence proved aide to withstand the effort and Rush got in a drop-kick which passed between the uprights to place Feilding eight points in the lead. Old Boys reduced the.margin a little later when Barraud came on to outstrip his pursuers and touch down in the corner, buick failed with the kick, and the game ended a moment later with the scores : Feilding 15, Old Boys 10.
