UNIVERSITY SUPERIOR.
SUCCESS OVER AIR FORCE. University put on 5 points and Air Force did not score in the first spell of their match, the featured contest of the day, but in the second spell, toward the end of the match, both sides put on the pace and the match closed with the points at 18 —o in favour of the Collegians. The teams were: University.—Herbert, Tutaki, Cookson, Bowler. Stewart, Land, Smith, Green, Wallace, Bamford, Craven, Robertshawc, McLaren, Seeley, Allen. Air Force. —Calcinai, Rowlands, Black, Steel, Sargisson. YoungViu»band, Sherlock, Horgan. Perry, Burke, Thompson, Drummond, Mclntyre, Spence, Henna. University took the initiative at the opening and held it until Sargisson wont away on liis own. He was in position for a score but thought he would be caught, and so passed. The ball was dropped. Smith, University’s half-back, made an opening close in and sent tho ball to Land, who jumped and fell over the line at the posts., McLaren converted. Bamford retired with a cut beneath the eye and Bowles replaced j him.
Early in tlie second half University were penalised in their goal-mouth, but Cnlcinai’s kick did not rise, and the ball went under the bar. Younglrusband chopped through and Herbert, his only opposition, stopped him dead. Herbert received a bad shaking and was replaced bv Bishop. Tutaki started a rush in his own twenty-five and Cookson finished off a 75 yards dash with a companion to score. Stewart’s kick missed. Sargisson picked up at the University twenty-five and went round to the goal-oosts for a try. Bowlands converted. While others watched a struggle in a line-out Craven scored for University, Stewart converting. Seeley made the final score from the ruck. McLaren adding the extra points. University 18, Air Force 5. The referee was Mr A. Weston.
