LONGBURN.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) LONGBURN,, May 4. A party of senior school children who visited the dairy factory were, shown over by the manager (Mr F. Brown). The processes in the making of butter and cheese were explained, and the latest box-making machine was demonstrated. Tho .headmaster (Air W. Barham) thanked Air Brown for his courtesy. A committee meeting in conneclion with the Women's Institute was hold at the residence of Mrs C. Nicol. Those present wore Alesdamcs Murray, Chamberlain, Alartin, Nicol, Rowland, Stephenson, and Alisa B. Zurcher, Programmes for the coming months were arranged. Competitions for the next meeting are decorated bowl of flowers, bottle of preserved peaches, and bloom. Airs Nicol served afternoon tea. Tho first of a series of euchre parties was held recently in the school, to help to raise funds towards tho baths. There was a poor attendance. The prizes were won by Air Ticke and Airs T. Cookslov. Prior to her wedding to Air Pond, of Otaki, Aliss Ruth Stephenson, who has been a teacher at the Sunday school, was tendered a gift evening by St. Chad’s Girls’ Club. The popularity of the bride-to-be was demonstrated by tho large gathering. Rev. G. W. Davidson called ujion the guest to open the parcels and a number of useful and' attractive gifts were displayed. Air Pond responded. Mrs A. Pierard is staying with friends in Wellington. Aliss Ellis, of Wellington, is the guest of Airs W. D. Campbell. The farmers who held their potatoes will be well rewarded, as tho market has taken a sharp upward trend. Air D. Rowland has been spending a holiday at Foxton as the guest of Air and Airs R. McKenzie.
