TRUST MUST BE KEPT
MEN IN CAMPS. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, May 3. “Violations of the trust which must exist lietween men living in camps and barracks must be treated seriously,” said Mr Justice Northcroft, in the Supreme Court to-dav, in sentencing Reginald Albert Henry Strudwick to six months’ imprisonment on charges of forging cheques. Strudwick was a parachute packer at Wigram and, finding a Post Office bank bbok, forged two withdrawal, slips. “Probation cannot be granted in such a case as this,” said the Judge. “In the very nature of things, men living together in camps and barracks must trust each other. It is not possible to secure their personal things against theft, and their security must lxi their trust in the honesty of their comrades. When this trust is broken there is not only material loss, but also a general loss of confidence in each other. Those wlio offend against this code must not expect to receive indulgent sentences from this Court.”
