REPATRIATION OF MEN.
SECOND N.Z.E.E. R.S.A OFFERS HELP. Tile repatriation of members of the Second N.Z.E.E,'*' was discussed by delegates to the annual conlereuce of the council of the N.Z.R.S.A. this week. It was agreed that the Government should he asked to allow the returned soldiers to assist in the repatriation work. Mr IV. D. Shelton (Gore) reported that the -repatriation committee had considered the quest ion and recommended the adoption of the following resolution: “That' urgent representations , Ire made to the Prime. Minister -to include representatives of the New Zealand lt.vS.'A. on all committees and boards that may be set up to deiil with the question of repatriation of members of the Second N.Z'E.E. That in making such representations the opirortunity. Ire taken to stress the following points as being essential in the framing of any legislation or regulations covering the matter : —(1) Free educational and vocational training. (2) A comprehensive scheme of land settlement. (3) Preference to cx-sol-diers in employment, particularly those who are. partly disabled, who for reasons beyond • their control are unable to resume their pre-war occupations. And that an effort he made to have a deputation wait on the Prime Minister from this conference, to place these representations before him, and to urge that such representation be provided fori in any legislation or regulations before they are completed.’;’ The vice-president of the association (Mr B. J. Jacobs) said ho considered the scope -of repatriation should be left open and moved as an amendment that all words after “the Second N.Z.E.E.” should Ire struck out. The amendment- was defeated on the voices and the resolution was carried. •
