LIBERAL’S SPEECH.
suggestion of friction. LONDON, May 2. The Daily Mail says that the Leader of the Liberal Party (Sir Archibald Sinclair) is reported to have had a somewhat heated interview with the Premier (Mr Chamberlain). It is believed that Sir Archibald declared he felt it was his duty to the nation that lie should deliver such a critical speech, as people throughout the country were gravely disturbed about the events in Norway, the Government's handling of the campaign and the lack of official information. The Daily Mail adds that the atmosphere of concern regarding the conduct of the war as a whole continues to grow. In a speech on Tuesday Sir Archibald Sinclair, while deploring “apparently inspired” defeatist articles suggesting that the British forces should be evacuated from Norway, criticised “false prophecies” of a few weeks ago expressing optimism over the Allies' genera' war position. He asked questions of the Government, including why the British counterstroke was “so slow in coming.”
