MARTON, May 2. Mr K. J, Stanford, a member of the staff of the Bank of New Zealand, Marton, leaves for Weraroa early next week to train as an air pilot. Mr D. E. Fair, recently on the staff of the Union Bank of Australia, at Marton, is also- going into training at the Weraroa camp next week. At the annual meeting of parishioners of St. Stephen’s parochial district, Rev. W. Raine presided. The vicar’s report and the churchwarden’s report were adopted. Officers elected are: Vicar's warden, Mr W. B. Langston; people’s warden, Mv R. G. Kindon! vestry, Messrs G. G. Oliver, G. L. Marshall. G. M. Lethbridge, D. B. Sladden, E. J. Street, J. T. K. Vance, T. Wales, ,T. Aldworth, T. If. Sweet and G. Bii'cli, Those who did not seek reelection were Messrs M. C. Fenwioko, C. A. Tidy, F. Gabitcs and F. P. Gould. The auditor is Mr C. S. Be.eehey. At tho monthly meeting of the Rangitikei County -Council, Clr. W. Doolo presided in the absence of Cr. K. W. Dalrymple. The Marton Borough Council is to be requested to enlarge the course in tho Tutaenui Stream below the reservoir in order to prevent, as far as possible, the flooding of lands along the banks of the stream. The attention of the'Public Works Department is to bo drawn to tho unsatisfactory condition of the temporary bridge over the Hautapu River at Hihitahi. Ac the request of the inspector of noxious weeds (Mr A. W. Trotter), tho council decided to ask the Minister to have thorn apple placed on tho schedulo and declared a noxious weed. The clerk intimated that the council’s hospital levy this year was £12,149. which was a reduction of £1399. Councillors wore requested to compile a list of the roads in their ridings that should be tar-sealed, for inclusion in tho estimates for the current year. A return presented by the engineer showed that £5262 19s ’ 6d had been expended by the. council in repairing flood damage, the chief item being £4146 14s 6d for labour. Tho council agreed to the amended time for tho completion of the Mnngahoe Road metalling and Curl’s Bridge, Upper Tutaenui main highway.
