RUGBY FOOTBALL.

HOROAVHENUA UNION, At a meeting of the Horowhenua Rugby Union, tnis week, Mr W. Hannan presided. The president mentioned the loss caused by the death of Mr J. Gillespie, the immediate past president. Mr Hannan said that no Ilian had done more lor Rugby football during his term as president of the union, or had been more conscientious in the discharge of his duties, than the late Mr Gillespie, and in his passing Horowhenua .Rugbv had lost a stalwart supporter. Other speakers also supported Mr Hannan’s remarks. The members stood in silence as a mark or respect to the late Mr Gillespie. It was resolved that players in all matches on Saturday next wear black arm-bands in honour of the late president. Messrs N. Winiata, 1). Cole and A. J. Devonshire were appointed a grounds committee. AV Tukapura, who was ordered oft the field for striking another player during a game last Saturday, was suspended for three playing Saturdays. The Foxtoii Ciub asked the committee to consider the reduction of the twelve months disqualification imposed upon Tohe MacDonald at the end of lust season. —It was resolved to inform the Foxton Club that the committee had no power to deal with the matter, as an application for reduction of a disqualification had to be forwarded to the New Zealand Rugby Union within fourteen days of the disqualification being imposed. . ~ Mr C. E. AViseley mentioned the desirability of bolding an effort towards raising funds for local patriotic purposes. Mr AV. Anderson, president of the Referees’ Association, bad formulated a scheme for an old timers’ day. Mr Anderson said that he bad discussed with others tlie question of local footballers, particularly oldtimers, making some effort to augment local patriotic funds, and found a general desire to do something. With organisation, he considered a. creditable effort would result. A committee consisting of Messrs W. Anderson, W. Dowling. J. B. Bateman, N. AVuuata, T. Goldsmith and J. S. Dunlop, was appointed, with a view to bringing down proposals. The following are the fixtures for next Saturday: —Senior: Athletic v. Shannon, at Levin Domain (FnghtSergt. Alovnihan); Wanderers v. United, at Otaki (Mr L. G. Campbell); Foxton v. Air Force A, at box.ton (Mr J. A. Zunpicich); Kuku-Manakau v Air Force'B, at Rugby Park (Mr W T . "Williams). Junior; Foxton v. Wanderers, at Levin Domain (Mr C. E. AViseley'); United v. Athletic, at Rugby Park (Mr H. J. AVarren); Shannon v. Punaliau, at Shannon (Mr T. W r . AVilson); Air Force v.
