TRAMCARS CATCH FIRE.
Per Pess Association. AUCKLAND, May 1. There have been no negotiations between the parties in the tramways dispute. Transport officials when interviewed said the men are working the trams faster than yesterday, but the tramway service is still a long way from normal. Citizens are still highly critical of the methods adopted • by members of the union, and the secretary of the union (Air J. Liddell) is receiving numerous complaints by telephone concerning the delay in the transport of passengers. An interesting sidelight is that, according to a statement made by the manager of the Transport Board (Mr Ford) seven trams caught fire yesterday due to the slow running and the control levers being allowed to remain too long on the resistance notches. In one case the Fire Brigade was called out.
