EMPIRE’S RESPONSE
INSPIRATION IN CRISIS. GREAT TASK AHEAD. MR EDEN’S WARNING. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copy rig n t.) (BritisH Official Wireless.) Received May 2, 11 a.in. RUGBY, May 1. “The world lias never witnessed a more inspiring response than that voluntarily given by the free nations of the British Empire from the first days of the war,” said the Dominions Secretary (Mr R. A. Eden), in a speech in London.' He added that he had never made any concealment of his own conviction that the enemy was truly formidable. The Prussian military machine had always been highly organised and perfected to the 'last detail. “Faced with a powerful and ruthless enemy, we, on our side, have certain material advantages,” declared Mr Eden. “Our resources, and those of our Allies and Dominions, are infinitely greater than those of our enemy.
“But it is not enough to he content with the existence of these great resources and repeat that time is on our side. Time has to be harnessed. We have to marshal our resources rapidly- and vigorously. Nothing less than the greatest effort of which our people are capable will ensure victory.”
