(From Our Own Correspondent.) CHAKRA, May 1. Tho opening shoot of tlie Rifle Club was well attended, on Monday night, several now members being present. The scores were : —W. Robinson, 67—70—137 ; N. Leet, 66 —69 —135; P. Ellery, 67-68-135; W. Ivlatt, 67-67—134; H. Mansell, 69-65 134; K. Vile, 67—66—133: I>. McDonell, 65—66—131; vS. Fvecklingtbn, 64—64—128, R. Hartley, 64-58-122; A. Bailey, 57 65-122; T. Masters. 58-62-120; D. Matthews, 25—43—88; M. King, 35—47—82. _ Mrs W. Robinson presided at the April meeting of _ the Women’s Institute. A very instructive demonstration was given on quilting ; by Miss J. Murray. Tho winners of competitions were: Scones. Mrs Murray 1, Mrs Williams 2; collection of vegetables, Mrs Murray 1, Mrs Klatt 2, bloom, Mrs Williams 1, Mr.*, Robinson 2. The hostesses were Mcsdames Kobcrstein, Klatt and Henderson. The competitions for next meeting will be fo* a hand-sewn patch on cotton material, and six queen cakes. Recent visitors from Ihe district to tho exhibition have boon Mr and Mrs P. Richardson, Mr and Mrs L. Kobcrstein and Mr and Mrs J. Wightman. Miss E: Ellery is spending a few days in Palmerston North. Miss.M. Ralfe, who has' been relieving assistant at the school, will relinquish her duties at the end of the week, and M iss C. Mills, the permanent assistant, will commence her duties after tlia . term holidays.
