One of the most treasured memories of the great and much beloved actress, Mary Anderson, was her recollection of her meeting with the venerable Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. Of all the things the noble poet said to her, she best remembered these words he spoke when she was preparing to depart: “Never lose an opportunity of giving pleasure. It will make you happier and better.”
