WEST END SCOUTS.
The annual meeting of the West End Scouts was held at the West End School on Monday evening. A very large number of parents were present and a good muster of Scouts and Cubs. Mr N. D. Stubbs, Commissioner of Scouts, presented King Scouts’ badges and first all-round cords to PatrolLeaders R. Harris and 11. Tawharu; first cords to E. Bailey, D. Dear and K. Stockdale; and second cord to T. Fletcher. Other badges, presented bg Scouter “Manua,” were won as follow: First-class, R. Harris, D. Dear, E. Bailey and R. Tawharu; tenderfoot, N. Hastings, D. Trow, A. Cawley and J. Blythe; second-class, G. Doncy, N. Trail; cyclist, G. Doney; handyman, T. Fletcher, R. Harris, D. Dear, E. Bailey; reader. K. Caldwell, M. Hambling, T. Fletcher, D. Dear, R. Harris, E. Bailey; signaller, R. Tawharu; leatherworker, D. Dear, E. Bailey and R. Harris. A large number of service stars were also presented. The Cubs gave a grand howl and Akela Carr distributed first stars to Cubs S. Collins, W. Tomlinson, B. Reilly and A. Cooksley. Proceedings were enlivened by ambulance and signalling displays by the Scouts, a relay race by the Cubs and songs by Ai-S.-M. Tawharu and R. and B. Tawharu. In an address to' the boys the Commissioner spoke of the fine work being done by Scouter W. Collins and urged them to stand by him and follow liis example. Six Cubs were invested.
At the annual meeting a large number of new members joined the committee and the annual report and balance-sheet as presented by tbe secretary were adopted. The balancesheet showed a credit balance of £l2. The Scouter’s and Cubmistress’s reports were also adopted with acclamation. The chairman extended a welcome to all new members and thanks were passed to the West End School Committee, Mr and Mrs Stockdale and Mr Dickens for their help. The election resulted in Mr W. Collins (chairman), Mr H. Bartlett (secretary) and Mrs Fletcher (treasurer) all being reelected. Mr Stockdale judged the handwork. The junior prize went to L. Murray and the senior to T. Fletcher. The handball cup was won by the Seagull Patrol (R. Tawharu). the'interpatrol cup by the Kiwi Patrol (D. Dear), and the Just Shield by the Kea Patrol (L. Murray). The signallers’ medals were won liy E. Bailey 1 and R. Harris 2; The delegate to the Boy Scouts’ Association is Mr W. Collins.
