PAHIATUA.

PERSONAL. Mr G. Cornelius, of -Mnstcrton Road, is visiting Wellington. Mrs K. Smart and Mrs R. Smart, of “Aorangi,” Malawi, are visiting Wellington where they are the guests of Mr und Mrs W. Eustan. of Ilataitai. Mrs W. T, Brown, of Pahiatua, who has been tho guest of Mrs D. .J. Kyfc, of Kelburn, Wellington, has left for Dunedin with her son, Mr R. Brown, who will reside thero. Mr R. W. Brown, of Mangatninoka, is the guest of his daughter, Mrs Fyfc. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. At a mooting of the Ilumua Women’s Institute, Mrs Hobbs presided. As a mark of respect to the late Mrs Olivant, who was a member of tbo institute, those present stood for a minute in silence, invitations were received to tbo liukanul and Pnhiatua Women’s Institutes’ birthdays. It was decided to make ltussifs for troops going overseas. The competitions resulted: Bloom, Miss T). White 1, Miss McLaughlin 2; three buttonholes, Mrs White 1, Miss D. White 2. FIRE BRIGADE. The superintendent of the Pnhiatua Fire Brigade, Mr W. La wry in his annual report presented at tbo meeting of the Pahiatua Firo Board, stated that, there had been a total of 13 firo calls for the yonr as against three for tho previous year. The fire loss on buildings was £7OO and on contents £l2O. ns against £6 on buildings, and nil on contents for the previous year. The membership of the brigade at present consists of two officers. 14 firemen, and two messengers; total, a full complement of 18. Tho brigade took part in competitions each quarter and compolcd in tho triangular demonstration shield competition. At this demonstration this brigade won the Lott Cup for tho one-man event for the fifth time in succession. A motion was curried congratulating Bio brigade on the results obtained in the various demonstrations and competitions during the year.
