SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA.
FURTHER APPEARANCES ASSURED. Patrons of the concert recently presented at the Opera House will bo pleased to know that the orchestra arranged to assist Miss Marie Moffatt with the pianoforte concerto has been established a 3 a definite musical society in the city. On Monday the players met together to consider the desirability of continuing activities, and Mr C. L. Mowlern was voted to the chair. A very full discussion followed and resulted in a unanimous decision to form a symphony orchestra under the title ot the Palmerston North Symphony Orchestra. All those taking part in the recent concert were elected members, and the ranks will be augmented from time to time as vacancies occur. The orchestra will go into active rehearsal next month and probably their next appearance will bo in July. The objects of the orchestra arc to raise funds solely for patriotic or charitable purposes from concerts presented from time to time and to introduce to the city artists who may not otherwise appear in Palmerston North. The members proceeded with the election of officers and Mr Mowlern was unanimously elected conductor. In thanking members for their expressions of con fidcnce, Mr Mowlern assured them that he would with their support bo able to present musical works which would, he felt sure, delight ail patrons of the orchestra. Mrs R. S. Law was elected leader, or. the motion of Mrs J. Fisher and Miss D. S. Baker. In appreciation of the great in tcrost taken in the formation of the orchestra by Miss Marie Moffatt, she was elected solo pianiste, and members ex pressed.the hope that sho would at somt early opportunity present another pianoforte concerto. Other officers elected were: Hon. pianiste, Mrs V. Clift; librarian, Mi A. Tonkin; secretary-treasurer, Mr P, S Lnrcomb; committee, Messrs Mowlern, Tonkin, Mylroi, O’Hara, Mrs Law, and Miss Marie Moffatt; Mr F. Cousins was tendered a vote of thanks for acting as stage manager at the recent concert arid he was elected to the office, subject to Ins consent. It was decided to invite the Mayor and councillors to become patrorm of the orchestra. A vote of thanks (o the chairman and secretary concluded the meeting.
