TAKARO RESIDENTS

PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Takaro Praogressive ’ Association was held on Monday, Mr E. H. Smith presiding. The report (as previously published) was adopted. The balance-sheet showed a credit of £l6 19s sd. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr E. H. Smith; vicepresidents, Messrs P. T. Jamieson, J. W. Spooner; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. H. Cribb; auditor, Mr I. C. Robinson; committee, Messrs S. J. A. Busst, A. D.- Barkwith, E. B. Borliam, H. AVykes, senr., H. Wykes, junr., Cl. L. Drager, It. Mclntyre, junr., Mesdames S. J. A. Busst, It. Packer, E. C. Hammond, H. Lyall, J. W. Spooner, D. Evans and P. T. Jamieson.

The town clerk (Mr J. R. Hardie) wrote advising that any further developments in the scheme for overcoming flooding in the Takaro district were still under consideration pending a report from the engineer employed by the Public Works Department on the Kawau and Mangaone Streams.

Advice was also received from the town clerk that the association’s request for the tar-sealing of Botanical Road, Burns Avenue, Shamrock Street (Chelwood Street to the railway line) and Featherston Street (bridge to Botanical Road) would receive consideration when the City Council’s estimates were dealt with.

It was decided to take no further action about extending the area of the association to include. Pascal arid Rangitikei Streets. No residents from these areas were present. It was decided to recommend to the committee that representations be made to the City Council to have further lighting installed in Shamrock Street, and also that the bus waiting shod in Featherston Street be painted. Appreciation was expressed of the services of the auditor (Mr Robinson). A vote of thanks was passed to the president, who mentioned the support given to the association by Cr W. G. Black.
