PEACE WITH CHINA.
JAPANESE GENERAL’S APPEAL. WESTERN POWERS BLAMED. Received April 30. 11.25 a.m. MONTREAL, April 29. General Itagaki, a former War Minister and now Chief of Staff in China, said that the conflict had been caused partly by Japan’s boastful insults to China, the worship of things Occidental, and Chinese dependence on Europe and the United States, says the Associated Press, quoting the Tokio Domei News Agency. . ’ General Itagaki accused Britain and Russia of fomenting anti-Japanese feeling. He claimed , that one of the army’s objectives was to destroy the illusion that the anti-J apanese Chinese regime was instigated by Britain, France, Russia and the United States. “An armed peace may be expected in Europe shortly when Japan should expect interference by third Powers seeking something that cannot be found in Europe,” General itagaki said. This is considered to be the most conciliatory appeal yet made by the Japanese Army to settle the Sino-Jap-aneso difference i.n a Pan-Asian movement to combat Communism and end Britain’s “monopolistic position in East Asia.”
