AWAPUNI TRACK NOTES.
LITTLE WORK TO-DAY. (By “Spectator.”) The course proper was open for work at Awapuni this morning, the flags being in the middle. The course was fairly heavy. The next meeting in which local horeert will bo engaged will be at Egmont on Thursday, but several are already in Taranaki and there was not a great deal of outstanding work this morning. Aurora’s! Star galloped alono over a mile in 1.56. Slcevoless galloped over seven furlongs and was joined by Aurora’s Love at the five furlongs peg.. The last four furlongs were completed in 55ecc. Selkirk and Renascor wore companions over seven furlongs. They took 1.38 for this dietanoc, with last five in 1.12. Silver Shekel, with a companion, covered five' furlongs in 1.10. Lord Plato was given a slow gallop over five furlongs, and Don Quex was sent out at three-quarter pace. Gay Jean (W. J. Broughton), Luarch (11. Stewart) and Mick the Miller (S. Waddell) were given a good three-quarter pace gallop over six furlongs. They finished on terms. Luarch, a maiden, galloped well. He will have his first start at the forthcoming Awapuni meeting. Inform and Shining Hours were companions over four furlongs, the time being 56see. Classfornt followed and was given a working gallop. She should bo in good order for her Egmont engagements. Brazil accompanied Colonel Bogey in a gallop over seven furlongs. The distance took 1.38. Francis Drake’s task was over five furlongs, which he completed in 1.10. Quadroon galloped a mile in good time, and is looking in good order for forthcoming engagements. Amytis Leigh and Little Dorrit did four furlongs together in 54 3-ssec. RACE BOY DESTROYED. The hurdler Race Boy broke a leg while being worked at Awapuni this morning and had to he destroyed. lie was being schooled, and with a companion jumped the first hurdle in good style, but the leg was found to bo broken before the second hurdle was reached. Race Boy was a brown gelding trained by L. Knapp for Messrs A. S. D’Atll and R. Richardson. Although not a winner this season, he had several minor platings, including two thirds in February at Egmont, where he was to I.nvc been raced next Thursday, and also thirds at Ohinemuri and Auckland. lie was also nominated for the hurdles events at the forthcoming Awapuni meeting.
