An Edmonton message states that fire destroyed Gainer Ltd.’s million dollar packing plant and also export bacon and beef worth 300,000 dollars. A staunch 40-ton Diesel-engined vessel which has been built in Picton for the Marine Department, underwent successful acceptance trials lasting four hours in Queen Charlotte Sound. Originally designed and ordered by the department as a fishing patrol and research vessel, the vessel is appropriately named Ikatere, signifying the Maori conception of the fish deity.—Press Association.
