(From Our Own Correspondent.) , WIIAKARONCO, April 26. The monthly meeting of the Labour Party was presided over by Mr F. Eagle. The report of the Easter conference was considered and a resolution expressing confidence in the Government led by Hon. P. Fraser was unanimously carried. Mr E. Ilcnaghan presided over an attendance of 13 householders on Monday evening. In presenting his report, he said the ia6t two years had been busy ones. At a cost of £lB9 10s an artesian well was sunk to obtain water for baths. For some years various committees had been endeavouring to have a grant for a new school, but without success. The minister had not, granted a new school, but arranged that the present one should be modernised, and the committee felt that a splendid work had been accomplished. The contractor was top-dressing the asphalt. Thanks were extended to the committee and teachers. The new committee is as follows, there being only the required nominations: Messrs E. ITcnaghan (chairman), F. Eagle (secretary), L. Newcombe, D. Cresswelland S. Oxcnham. Delegates to the Committees’ Association,' Messrs Ilcnaghan and Newcombe. At the tennis championships results were: —Men’s championship, first round: M. Philin v. P. Cater. 9—6: second around, M. Philip v. R. ClOsey, 9 —o; F. Eagle v. IC. Woodd 14—12; final, M. Philin v. F. Eagle. 9—2. Women’s championship, first round: Miss J. Wood \. ivliss AJ. Slv. 9—3; Miss E. Woodd v. Miss O. Vautier, 9-2, Mrs Philip y. Aliss IT. Wood. 9—3: second round. Aliss J. Wood v. Aliss At. Hodgson, 9—l; Alias E. Woodd v. Airs Philip, 9 —5; final, Aliss J. Wood v. Aliss E. Woodd, 9—3. There was a fair attendance at the Drama Circle meeting when two plays were cast to go into production. A fine service conducted by Rev. F._ S. Ran son, was held at the school on W ednesday, when many residents gathered. A wreath which had boon made by Miss Pearce and the schoolgirls was put on the Roll of Honour by Mr E. Ilcnaghan (chairman of the School Committee), and Air* S. Oxenham (president of the Women’s Institute) placed one on made by Alesdarnes E. Johansen and 11. W’ood of the Garden Circle. Recent visitors to the ExhibUion include Airs C. Crawford, Airs McAlurray and Mr and Airs Aicyer.
