APPEALS USELESS.

PROSECUTED MOTORISTS. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, April 24. “Officers of the Transport Department have been embarrassed by pleas from friends of offending motorists that the prosecutions should be waived,” said Mr G. L. Laurcnson (Commissioner of Transport), at the Road Safety Council meeting to-day. The department and its officers had refused in every case to hare anything to do with “ticket- fixing.” The policv was to be wholly impartial. These remarks were amplified by Hon. R. Semple, who emphasised that appeals made to him personally and members of Parliament were useless. They went straight into the wastepaper basket. “I never have, and never will, interfere with the judgment of traffic officers on the one hand and the Courts on the other,” said Mr Semple.
