(From Our Own Correspondent.) STANWAY, April 25. At the biennial householders’ meeting there was a disappointing attendance. Those present were Messrs J. Alaefarl.me, R. Hamilton,' Af. Mitchell, L. Cole, F. Cowdrey, C. Christian and AI. Beet. The retiring committee consisted of Alcssrs Alacfarlano (chairman), F. Cowdrey (secretary), R. Sterne, C. Christian, and It. Hamilton. Air Maefarlane was elected to the chair. Air Cowdrey explained that, as tlie account hooks had not been returned by the Education Board, lie could not present the bal-ance-shoot, hut instead lie gave from memory an account of the position. Air Alacfarlane spoke briefly on the splendid work Air Cowdrey had done in the capacity of secretary, tlie position lie was now relinquishing, as ho was shortly leaving the district. Air Cowdrey thanked the chairman for his remarks, and also paid a tribute to the work of Air Maefarlane. Air Loot was then elected to the chair to conduct tho business of electing a new commit tee. which is as follows, the nominations not; exceeding the number required: Messrs C Christian. P, Sterne. R. Hamilton (members of the old committee), AI. Mitchell and L. Cole. At a subsequent committee meeting Air Christian was elected as chairman" and Air Hamilton score, tary.
■Afr and Airs Callingliam and Aliss D. Callingliam have returned from a short holiday spent in AVellington. Air and Mrs L. Cole have returned from AA’ollinglon. Afr and Airs II Wilkie, of Taihapc. have been the guests o r Airs L. Colo. Mrs E. Rosser and Aliss Jean Rosser are visitors to Wellington. This year’s winner of the Cobbe Cup. a trophy belonging to tlie Feilding' Athletic Association, to ho won by ladv members, is Lyra Christian, daughter of Air and Mrs C. Christian and a pupil of the Stnnway School. This trophy is won by tho member who gains most points during the season, in winch Lyra Christian gained two first and four second places. Only twelve years of age she is a very promising athlete.
The sympathy of dislrict residents has been extended to Air and Airs AI. Alitchell in the passing of the former's sister. Airs AI. Bainbridge, of Hawke’s Bay. On Wednesday morning, Mr J. IMills, a member of the Ilaleornhe branch of tho Returned Soldiers’ Association, gave a talk to the children of the Stanwav School on thfe subject of Anzac. Air Afiils ably explained tlie events loading up to the assault on Gallipoli peninsula by the Australian -and New Zealand troops in 1915. lie gave a vivid description of the heroic landing, the subsequent activities and finallv tho .evacuation, lie briefly outlined the further duties tiro Anzacs were called upon to do. lemiiiiatiiig with the Armistice ai/d Army of Occupation in Germany. At tlie conclusion of tho talk, the children, who had been most interested listeners, heartily applauded Air Alids, while the teacher (.Mr Leet, thanked him for his address.
