SUPPLIES FOR JAPAN.
CESSATION URGED. LONDON, April 5. Stopping of supplies of scrap metals and oiis by the United States to Japan was suggested by the Chinese Ambassador in London (Dr Quo Taichi), in an address to the English Speaking Union. Dr Quo Tai-chi i said that, although Japan’s annual expenditure now exceeded her national debt before the war, her most pressing needs were scrap metals and oils, of which the United States supplied .90 per cent, and 65 per cent, respectively. Without those supplies, declared Dr Quo Tai-chi, the Sino-Japanese war would be ended within a year. He said he believed that Washington might sea its way to end this trade. Dr Quo Tai-chi said that the democratic aims of Great Britain and China were similar. Both were fighting to defend those aims. The United States was sympathetic to both causes. He expressed satisfaction that ..Great Britain, like the United States, continued to recognise the Chinese National Government. .'
