It is being advocated in several quarters that the custom of reserving one sot of decorations lor -officers and having another set lor non-commis-sioned officers and men who give distinguished service, should be abolished. 'the custom is regarded as out oi keeping with democratic ideals and specially incongruous when increasingly non-commissioned officers are doing the same jobs as officers. The discussion twas revived bv the publication of awards for two pilots, each of whom bombed and sank a submarine. One pilot, being commissioned, received the Distinguished Flying Cross, and the other, being a sergeant, received the Distinguished Flying Modal.
