TROUBLE IN POLAND.

NAZI PLANS MISCARRY. LONDON, March 22. Swiss reports on the difficulties lacing Germany in the conquered Polish territory state that, in particular, the Jewish reservation at Lublin is so overcrowded that the local authorities refuse to admit any more Jews. Old and sick persons front Pomerania and Mecklenberg transported there were sent back. The reason for the overcrowding is that the Ukraniau population in Poland was invited to return to Russia, but refused to go. Warsaw is also overcrowded. It now has 50 per cent, more inhabitants than before the war. Because of the great difficulty in obtaining raw materials and food, the population is suffering great privation. The Gazette de Lausanne gives a harrowing description of the “purification” of Polish territory. Poles who return to their homes to fetch some treasured possessions, after they have been ordered to migrate to other areas, it 6ays, are invariably executed if caught. The official German news agency announces some of these executions, with the object of deterring other Poles, and explains that the victims were executed for “pillaging houses inhabited by Germans and for terrorising the occupants.” Concerning the Germanisation of the .part of Poland incorporated in the Reich, it is stated that the settlement of Germans in those-territories is far from succeeding in the l'onnation of a substantial German minority. Of 8,000,000 inhabitants, 10 per cent, at most are Germans. Hence new plans for Germanising the country have been worked out, including, for instance, the settlement of about 500.000 German small farmers. Further Germanisation is to be obtained by changing the school system by closing all higher educational establishments, and R- replacing newspapers in Polish by those in German, so that German will become the official language. It is hoped that in this way there will be at least a partial emigration of the Polish population.
