NATIONAL RESERVE.
NEED TO REMAIN ACTIVE. Per Press Association. NEAV PLYMOUTH, April 18. About 50 returned soldier members of the New Plymouth Detachment of tho National Military Reserve decided to-night to continue as an organisation, holding regular monthly parades. The decision was reached as an alternative to a suggestion that, because there appeared little need for the organisation, it might go into recess. Statements were made that AA’ellington and Palmerston North detachments had already gone into reeecs. but a letter read from the Minister of Defence expressed a keen desire for the detachment to remain as an active unit ready at all times in case CT emc’--gency for the defence of New Zealand. NOT IN RECESS. PALMERSTON NORTH COMPANY. In the absence of Major L. Gardner, officer commanding the No. 3 (Palmerston North) Company, National Alilitary Reserve, the statement that the Palmerston North detachment had already gone into recess was referred to Captain T. Casseriey, second in command of the company, who expressed surprise at the report. On the contrary, means of intensifying tlie training wore at present under consideration, lie said.
