SALVATION ARMY.

DECEPTION TO COMMANDER. A reception was held at the Salvation Army Citadel lor Lieutenant-Commis-sioner J. Evan Smith and Mrs Smith, on. Tuesday evening. There was . a large attendance at the ten, including 25 visiting officers. Lieutenant-Com-missioner Smith later inspected the Life Saving Guard, Sunbeams and Chums. '■ Lieutenant-Colonel G. Grattan (Chief Secretary) presided at the function. He was assisted by Major J. H. Nelson, and the visiting officers occupied the platform. Major V. J. Dick extended a welcome on behalf of the senior section of the local corps, and SergeantMajor H. Tong for tho junior corps. The Chief Secretary spoke of his association with the Salvation Arruy movement in England and XjieutenantCommissioner Smith replied to the welcome. J terns were rendered by band, choir and the Young Peoples’ Singing Company.
