BUTTER AND CHEESE.
INCREASED PRODUCTION. OFFICIAL FIGURES QUOTED. MORRIXSVTLLE, April 17. Speaking at the northern ward conference hold by the New Zealand Dairy Board at Morrinsvillo to-day, the ward member (Mr A. J. Murdoch) said the claims made by Ibe Government concerning the increase in the production of butter and cheese in New Zealand for tho current season work not supported by the official figures. .For tho eight months ended March 31 last tho output of butter for the Dominion readied 114,628 tons, compared with 112,545 tons for the corresponding period last season, an increase of 2085 tons, or 1.85 per cent. For tho same period, 75,631 tons of cheese had been made, compared with 70,725 for tho first eigiit months of 1938-39. an increase of 4905 toils, or 6.9 per cent. The butterfat increase for the period was approximately 2.928 per .rent. Mr Murdoch added that with Denmark off Britain's supply market it behoved Now Zealand farmers to exert every effort to increase the production of all forms of primary products.
