TE ARAKURA.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE ARAKURA, April 16. At the April meeting of the Women’s Institute' Mrs Whisker (president) read ati appropriate article entitled “Steady.” Mrs* Bray was enrolled and welcomed as a member. It was decided to have travel talks at each meeting in place of the golden thread talks. Members will be asked to provide articles in rotation, and Mrs Burnham will contribute at the next meeting. The winners of the monthly competitions were: Soldiers’ knitted sock, Mrs Tait 1, Mrs Griffith 2; bloom, Mrs McDowall ..(carnation). Mrs Bradley won the travelling shilling. A very interesting letter received from the link institute at West," Burton, England, was read by Mrs Bradley. Miss G. Baker offered to reply. Members were reminded of the birthday evening in June. Full details will be advertised later. A “sewing bee” was successfully conducted for the troops overseas after which afternoon tea was served by Mesdamcs W. E. ’J homas, G. Sanno, McDowall and Miss Thomas. Next month the competitions will be for the best chrysanthemum, egglcss fruit cake, and best arranged 21b jar of flowers (for the menfolk only).
