On the local tennis courts recently a tournament was held and results were: Ladies’ singles: First round, Mrs Parr beat Miss C. 11 ills, 31—25; Miss N. Corlett beat Miss E. Wenman, 31 —16; Mrs Wilton, Mrs Clyde, byes. Second round: Mrs Parr beat Mrs Gyde, 31 —16; Mrs Wilton beat Miss Corlett, 31—25. Final : Mrs Parr beat Mrs Wilton, 31 —22. Men’s singles: .1), Standish boat N. Wenman, 35 —33; R. Gyde beat A. Bell, 31 —19; B. Harper boat A. Simpson, 31—25; D. Waghorn, a bye; R. Harper beat L. Free, 3l —16. Second round: 1). Standish a bye; Gyde beat B. Harper 31 —23; U. Waghorn beat R. Harper, 31—26. Semi-final: Waghorn bo; Gyde, 31—27. Mixed doubles: Mrs Wilton and R. Harper beat Miss Wenman and Wenman, 31 —24; Mrs Gyde and Simpson beat Miss Hills and Bell, 31 —16; Mrs Parr and Free beat Miss Corlett and Waghorn, 31 —24; Miss Hills and Gyde a bye Second round: Mrs Wilton and Harper beat Mrs Gyde and Simpson, 31 —20 ; Miss Corlett and B. Harper beat Miss Hills and Gyde, 31 —26; Mrs Parr and Free, a bye. Semifinal : Mrs Parr and Free beat Mrs Wilton and R. Harper, 31—23; Miss Corlett and B. Harper, a bye. Final: Mrs Parr and Free t>cat Miss Corlett and Harper, 31 —16. Mrs Parr was the winner of the silver star handicap for this season. Mr A. Reid, who was recently in Tokomaru on leave from Burnham Camp, was tendered a. farewell presentation. Mr I> Wilton, on behalf of the district, asked Mr Reid to accept a handsome silver cigarette case ,a leather wallet, and a leather-cover-ed military writing tablet. Mr Reid briefly responded and'musical honours were accorded him. Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs Atkinson (piano) and Mr G. Bell (violin). Mr W. Bond acted as M.C. A gift evening was tendered to Miss 1). Towler in the Tokomaru Hall. Messrs R. and A. Phillips supplied the music for dancing and Mr W. Bond was M.C. Mr C. Osman asked Miss Towler to accept a handsome aVray of gifts on view. Mr W. Bond (patron of the Tokomaru Tennis Club) presented Miss Towler with a dressing case from her fellow members. On behalf of Miss Towler and himself Mr Phillips suitably repliod and the hhppy couple were accorded musical honours. A large gathering were present. The ToKomaru School children and several parents spent an enjoyable day at the Exhibition recently. Miss June Simpson, of Tuai, is spending a holiday with her grandmother, Mrs 11. Waghorn. Mr R. Gyde has left to take up a position in Wanganui.
