DAIRY PRODUCE.
SURPLUS FOR BRITAIN. MR GOODFELLOW’S IDEA. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 18. The opinion that the New Zealand Government should immediately enter into negotiations with the British Government for the sale of the whole of the Dominion’s surplus butter and cheese at the 1939 price was expressed today. by Mr AY. Goodfellow, managing-director of Amalgamated Dairies’ Ltd., in a. statement reviewing the outlook in the light of the recent events in Europe. He pointed out that New Zealand, in consequence of the German invasion of Denmark, had a wonderful op portunity to expand her exports of pork and bacon, since Denmark had been the largest supplier of hacon to Britain and was also a very large supplier of butter. Due to the groat misfortune of our Continental competitors, the outlook for New Zealand dairy produce was now thoroughly sound. Mr Goodfellow emphasised the fact that the outcome of tne war in Europe meant'as much, and probably more, to the people of New Zealand than to the people of any other part of the Empire. He was emphatically of the opinion that all sections of the comm unity should sink their political differences and work together to assist the Government to give Great Britain its utmost aid to win the war.
