TASMAN SHIPPING

ALTERED SCHEDULE. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 17. For the first time since she was commissioned in 193(1 the Uniun Steam Ship Company’s Tasman liner Awatea, of 13,000 tons, will be taken off the run from Sydney to Auckland next month. The step is the result of a sul>stantial decrease in passenger traffic from the port and to conserve oil fuel. The liner will remain in service from Sydney to Wellington. One more voyage will be made to Auckland by tlio Awatea, which will then be engaged in a fortnightly service across the Tasman from Wellington. In recent months she had made on the average one visit a month to Auckland, and two or three calls to Wellington. The altered timetable will be maintained till September, when the ship will bo withdrawn for her annual survey. It is likely that the liner’s programme will then be reviewed in tho light of international events and Tasman traffic in general.
