ADDINGTON SALfc. IMPROVED TONE. Per Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 17. Tlie smaller entries in ' practically all the major sections of stock forward at Addington to-day were reflected in a better sale. Eight thousand store sheep were penned, as against 14 000 at the last sale. Two-tooths, which have been selling' well recently in comparison with the older sheep, were scarcely so firm to-day but old ewes were better. The best, of the two-tooth halfbreds made to 245, with other pens at 23s and 225. Sound-mouthed halfbreds sold at 12s. 6d, and secondary io 10s. Adult wethers sold at up to 19s 9d, and backward Chatham Island lots at 11s. The store lambs sold draggingly, the best sorts ranging from 14s 6d to 16s, with secondary descriptions at about 10s. The fat lambs forward fared a .little better, exporters paying lip to the schedule rates. The fat sheep entry comprised 5500 head. All classes, oxcept the medium ewes, improved by Is 6d to 2s a head. Prime wethers sold nt from 28s to 325, with several lines of the tops at from 32s 6d to 35s lOd, mediumweights from 27s 6d down to 245, and light down to 18s. Good pens of ewes sold at from 24s to 265. with a few pens of the fops going to 31s. Medium ewes made 17s to 20s, and export sorts from 11s to 14s 6d. The fat cattle penned totalled 460. A small proportion of the prime cattle was bolter by 15s a head, and others by 10s. Good steers made from £l4 lO.s to £l6, with a few cf the tops at from £l7 to £l9 7s 6d. Medium steers made from £l2 to £l3 10s, rough down to £7 10s; heifers from £9 to £11; and cows from £8 10s to £9 10s. The best beef made from Sps to 37s 6d a 1001 b, medium 32s 6d to 345, secondary to 31s 6d, and rough down to 265. In the fat pigs section light baconers made from £1 7s 6d to £3 4s 6d —an average price a lb cf from 7d to 7-id. The baconcr market was one of the best of the season, prices ranging from £3 4s 6d to £5 19s 6d —an average price a lb cf from 6ijd to 7jd. ASIIIIURST SALE. Dalgctv and Co., Lid., report on their Aahhurst sale, hold yesterday. There wore fair offerings of all classes of cattlo and a medium entry of sheep. The sheep sale throughout was marked with good competition. A pen of fat and forward wethers and several pens of hoggets sold very well. Fat sheep were alto in demand. In the beef section there was a large entry, hut owing to Ihe restrictions of space affocting the export buyers, there was a drop in values, with several passings. Dairy cattlo close to profit met keen competition and a good entry of woaner Jersey heifers sold to a good enquiry. An odd pen of store bullocks wore sold at late rates. Potter cows and bulls wero not wanted and prices were easier. We quote: Fat ewes, 17s: fat wethers, 23s 6d, 25s 4d; fat lambs, 23s 2d to 24s 6d; small ewe lamlis, 12s 6d: woolly b.f. lambs 10s Id, 15s 4d: cull lambs, 5s 2d; f. and f. 4 and 6th wethers, 235: potter rams, 8s; cows closo to profit, £9 10s weaner Jersey heifers. £2 10s, £2 12s: weaner crossbred heifers, £2 7s; fat heifers, ex dairy, £3 17s 6d, £5 ss, £7; fat cows, ex dairy, £3 ss, £3 15s, £4 10s, £5 ss. £6. £6 Is; fat crossbred cows, £5 7s 6d to £6; Shorthorn bullocks, £6 ss; Polled Angus bullocks, £7 ss: s'.ore cows, £2 2s 6d, £2 7s 6d; Jersey bulls ,£3 ss, £4 7s 6d. Slips, 8s to 13s. JOHNSONVILLE RATES. A large yarding of all classes of cattle was forward at the sale at Johnsonyillc yesterday. The bullocks comprised chiefly heavyweight cattle, with a few pens of light and mediumweight bullocks. Extra prime heavy bullocks met with a good sale, with prices showing little alteration on those of last week. A large yarding of wethers, an average yarding of owes, and a small yarding of fambs were forward. Extra prime heavy wethers met with keen competition, with prices showing a firming tendency. Values; — Cattle. —Prime extra heavy bullocks £l6 to £l4 10s, prime heavy £l4 7s 6d to £l3 13s. heavy £l3 7s 6d to £l2, light and unfinished bullocks £ll 15s to £lO 10s; extra prinifc heavy cows and heifers £9 18s to £8 Is, prime heavy £7 17s 6d to £7 ss, cows and heifers £7 2s 6d to £6 ss; exdairy cows £5 to £4 2s 6d; runners and vealcio £4 to £1 18s; small calves £1 12s to 'los. Sheep.—Prime extra heavy wethers 29s Id to 26s sd, prime heavy 26s to 24s 3d, medium 23s 6d lo 225; black-faced two-tooths, heavy, 25s 9d to 24s 6d, medium 23s to 22;; prime extra heavy ewes 23s to 20s, prime heavy 19s Id to 17s 4d, medium 16s 9d to 15s 2d; heavy lambs 24s tc- 21s Bd, medium 20s 6d to 18s 6d.
STORTFORD LODGE. HASTINGS, April 17. The store sheep sold at Stortford Lodge to-day met a market which, for the better lines,' showed little change on last week, hut which for the inferior sorts was definitely weaker. Wethers were fully Is and more n head cheaper. One line of 400 wellbred ewe lambs realised 20s. forward owes for fattening brought from 11s to 12s 6d. Extra prime, heavy. well-bred heifers brought from £lO to £lO 10s, and sniallcrfrained from £8 10s to £9 10s. Hie tops of the cows came forward in good ordei for the trade, ,making from £8 5s to £& 10s. The best quality pens brought from 27c 6d to 28s a 1001 b. PRICES AT WESTFIELD. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 17. Tho smaller ox-boef entry submitted at the Westfield sale sold well, values improving by Is a 1001 b. Cow and heifer beef also recovered.
