SUCCESSFUL MATINEE. LONDON, April 15. The Duchess of Kent received a bouquet of New Zealand flowers from Kow Gardens at the All-New Zealand Matinee, which, according to Sir Hugh Walpole, set new West End records for low expenses and high receipts, namely £5329. Leslie Henson was the only Englishman. on the programme. He auctioned David Low’s drawings, which were executed on the stage, also Harry Rountree's drawing of a New Zealand soldier and «. blank canvas for a portrait to bo painted bv Captain Oswald Birlcy, which fetched 250 guineas out of a total of £354. Songs were contributed by members of the New Zealand Anti-Tank Unit. Members of the staff of New Zealand House gave hakas, led by Tawera Moana. The orchestra plavcd a spe-cially-written overture by Douglas. Lilburn. Other artists included Eileen Driscoll, Huliert Carter, Arnold Trowel!, Kathleen Levi, Hinemoa Rosieur, Denis Dowling, and Stella Murray. Tho High Commissioner (Mr W. J. Jordan) and Mrs Jordan received the Duchess of Kent.
